Like many business owners, they had been running the business in a certain way for a long time and didn’t fully realise some of the mistakes being made or the actions that could be taken to improve the business. Having someone objective come into the business made a big difference, particularly because the business had reached a point where it was facing some financial and structural challenges.

Jamie brought a very calm, reassuring and non-judgemental approach, which made it easier to talk openly about the difficulties in the business and focus on solutions. One of the key areas they worked on was restructuring, particularly within finance and staffing.

They now meet regularly to review progress, set goals, and track performance. After each meeting, Jamie sends clear notes and actions, which helps ensure that goals are followed through and implemented. This structure has helped improve team meetings, build team confidence, and get everyone working towards the same overall vision for the organisation.

One of the biggest improvements came from identifying an issue with cash flow. The business realised that money owed to them from clients — which should have been used to cover rent, food and bills — had not been properly collected. This had a significant impact on cash flow, as the business had been covering these costs from other funds.

By putting proper systems in place to track and chase outstanding payments, the business was able to recover a substantial amount of money that was owed — close to £500,000. This has helped put the business in a much stronger financial position and highlighted the importance of having proper financial systems and controls in place.

Overall, the coaching helped the business improve financial control, restructure key areas of the business, improve team communication and accountability, and put systems in place to prevent similar problems happening again in the future.
